About the Mien Language
Mien (Iu Mien) is a Hmong-Mien language spoken by around 800,000 people across southern China, northern Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Most Mien refugees who left Laos after the Vietnam War era were resettled in the United States, and the Mien community in Canada is small, part of the broader Southeast Asian refugee diaspora. Mien is written with a Latin-based system developed in the 1980s.
