Slovenian interpreting requests are steadier than for refugee-driven languages but still modest, and they cover IRCC citizenship and immigration interviews, legal and notarial appointments, and medical visits for older speakers. Standard Slovenian is what interviews use, but the language has many strong regional dialects, and an elderly speaker from a particular valley may be far more comfortable in theirs, so we ask the speaker's home region so the interpreter can follow it.
We also note if a speaker uses Serbo-Croatian, German or Italian from the border areas, since an older speaker may move between them. The interpreter renders in the first person. Slovenian is a South Slavic language written in the Latin alphabet, with the accented letters c, s and z carrying carons that must be reproduced exactly, since dropping them can change a name or a place. The typical papers are birth, marriage and death certificates, university diplomas and transcripts, and court and notarial documents. Slovenian civil-status certificates are sometimes issued on multilingual EU forms, which can reduce what needs translating, though a Canadian body will often still want a certified translation of the substantive record.

Slovenian is the official language of Slovenia, with around 2.5 million speakers.
