Because Sanskrit is not used for everyday conversation, a request for a Sanskrit interpreter almost always means something else, such as a Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil or other modern-language speaker who also has a Sanskrit text. Sanskrit is written mainly in the Devanagari script, though older texts appear in other regional scripts, and translation calls for a specialist familiar with classical grammar and religious vocabulary. We provide a full English or French translation with a signed certificate of translation accuracy, or a sworn affidavit before a commissioner of oaths where a receiving body asks for one.
