Pulaar is one end of a broad Fula chain, and a speaker from Senegal or Mauritania may differ noticeably from a Fulfulde speaker further east, so we confirm the country and home area at booking to match the right variety. Pulaar is usually written in the Latin alphabet, though it also appears in an Arabic-based Ajami script and, increasingly, in the purpose-made Adlam alphabet; most interpreting, however, works from the spoken language, and many speakers also use French or Arabic as a second language.

Certified translation for Pulaar speakers is shaped by the fact that civil records across their home countries are typically issued in French or Arabic rather than in Pulaar. A Senegalese, Guinean or Malian record usually arrives in French, and a Mauritanian one in French or Arabic, so the translation a Canadian file needs is most often out of one of those languages, and we confirm the real source before starting.
