Much Guarani work is oral and tied to a rural Paraguayan speaker who is more comfortable in Guarani than in Spanish, so at booking we ask about the stronger language, since a fully bilingual speaker may be well served in Spanish. Paraguayan Guarani also differs from the varieties spoken in Bolivia and elsewhere, so telling us the speaker's country and region lets us match an interpreter properly.

Many Paraguayans mix Guarani and Spanish in a form often called Jopara, and a good interpreter follows that movement rather than forcing a speaker into one language. Certified translation for Guarani speakers more often works from Spanish than from Guarani, because Paraguay issues birth, marriage and police records in Spanish. Those are translated from Spanish into English for an IRCC, IRB or provincial file, with names and dates reported as printed.
