Flemish and the Dutch of the Netherlands share one written standard, so for documents the two are handled together, but in spoken interpreting the Belgian accent, everyday vocabulary and some legal and administrative terms differ. When you book, tell us if the speaker is from Flanders so we can assign an interpreter comfortable with Belgian usage, and mention the region, since West Flemish and Limburgish speech can be quite distinct in casual conversation.

Certified translation on Flemish files is Dutch translation, since Belgian civil records are issued in standard Dutch in the Flemish Region. We translate the full text into English or French with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, or a sworn affidavit before a commissioner of oaths where the receiving body asks for one, keeping the layout close to the original so officers can compare the two.
The records we handle most are Belgian birth, marriage and death certificates, extracts from the civil register, diplomas and university transcripts, police clearances and company documents prepared for permanent residence, citizenship, credential assessment and business use. Belgian records sometimes carry French or German alongside Dutch, and we translate every part in full. Acceptance ultimately depends on the receiving institution.

Flemish is the variety of Dutch spoken in Belgium, primarily in the northern Flanders region. It's essentially the same language as Standard Dutch in writing, but with distinct vocabulary, pronunciation, and some legal terminology - particularly for Belgian civil and government documents, where Flemish conventions diverge from Dutch ones. Around 6 million people speak it.
