There is rarely a formal document in Diula itself, because the language is mostly oral and, where written, uses either a Latin alphabet or an Arabic-based Ajami script. Civil records from Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso are issued in French, so a certified translation usually works from a French birth, marriage or nationality record rather than from Diula.
