Certified Chinese translation is the other half of most files, and the written form has its own considerations. Documents may arrive in simplified characters from mainland China or in traditional characters from Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan, and civil records come with official stamps, seals and endorsements that have to be translated in full. We deliver a complete English or French translation with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy, or a sworn affidavit before a commissioner of oaths where a body prefers one.
The documents we see most are birth, marriage and death certificates, the household registration or hukou, notarial certificates, police clearances, and diplomas and transcripts for credential assessment. Names are transliterated to match the passport spelling, in pinyin or the Jyutping-style romanisation used on the original as appropriate, with any variant noted for the officer.
